Web from scratch – part III.
My friend sent me message weeks ago: “Hey A., I need some client contact form for my website. Could you please help?”
OK..Contact form could not be a problem.. I thought. The problem started with special requirements like uploading files + we wanted to make it for free with some nice plugin.
Reqiurements:
- Name
- Text message
- Files upload
- Consent
- Send button
- Some security checks
- Behaviour and style – could we make any changes? what changes (color, size, frames, etc..)?
- Get messages by email (it is enough?)
Every single form plugin offered by WordPress from admin page could be used for everything from requirements instead of files uploads. It drove me crazy. I decided that I am not going to pay 49-199$ / 1 year licence because of that. The golden rule of IT said “ask google until you get what you want :D” We all living our programmer’s lives with stack overflow or YouTube. And I am serious. We should always try.
I found FORMINATOR!! Easy to use, uploading files for free and with good style. You should try.
Note 1: Change form style in theme..Save your time. I spent hour and gave it try in plugin settings = it did not work.
Note 2: Set some security checks (email should be email ..)
Note 3: Check how many chars you could put into your text message (it could be pretty small number by default)
Note 4: Check how big files you could upload (it could be pretty small number by default)
And please do some tests!! You/your client need working solution not some nice buttons and text areas on website. Thank me and yourself later 🙂
My friend sent me first customer reaction after few days and it was great winner feeling! It was worth all Sherlock Holmes work 😀
